After their defeat in the battle of Badr and having their trade routes jeopardized, the people and leaders such as Abu Sufian of Quraysh’s clan, Abdul-Dar plot an attack on the Prophet. They decide to target Hamzah Ibn Abdul-Mutalib, a former member who had joined the ranks of the Prophet and who was responsible for the death of many of their people, as he was close to the Prophet and his death would have devastated him. The battle went on and Hamzah was martyred, at the hands of Wahshi Ibn Harb, where his body was then mutilated in an attempt to avenge the death of Hin bint ‘Utbah’s (polytheist woman) father.
